Course content
In the Winter Semester of 2026, the course is taught by Miro Dacho, dramaturg of the Slovak Chamber Theatre in Martin and lecturer at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (VŠMU). Further details regarding the course content are available in Moodle. 1. Theatre dramaturgy and its function in contemporary theatre practice and artistic creation. 2. Different roles of dramaturgy at individual stages of preparing a production or performative work. 3.-5. Basic dramaturgical concepts and their contemporary interpretations. 6.-8. Selection of material, staging and dramaturgical strategies. 9.-11. Preparation of a dramaturgical concept: research, analysis, proposal development. 12.-13. Presentation of concept proposals, individual and group evaluation.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with practical theatre dramaturgy. Students will learn to apply creative and analytical approaches to practical artistic dramaturgical work and to develop various materials into a dramaturgical staging concept. The course is taught in collaboration with leading theatre dramaturges.

Regular attendance, active participation in class, timely and high-quality completion of individual and group assignments during the teaching part of the semester, and the preparation of a written dramaturgical concept of 5 standard pages. Requirements for participation, attendance, and course completion are specified in Moodle.
