Learning outcomes
In the Academic Skills course, students acquire academic skills through a combination of lectures, seminar work and independent assignments: 1. The basics of lifelong learning: curiosity, initiative, independent study, the ability to take good notes and use acquired knowledge and skills creatively, to reflect on one's own progress in study, to distinguish one's own ideas from those of others, not to cheat or plagiarise, to use artificial intelligence and electronic resources for study. 2. Ability to work with others: recognising the merits of different proposals, involving everyone in teamwork, fostering a creative climate, avoiding conflict, meeting deadlines and completing tasks outside the team. 3. Ability to actively read and comprehend a professional text: understand the relationship between the means and the meaning of a text, understand the internal construction of a text and the relationship of its parts to the whole, recognise the relevance of a text to different fields of study, understand the importance of the context of what is read, be aware of different ways of interpreting a text, discuss a text independently and according to the current state of knowledge. 4. Basics of cultural institutions: public theatres, sports facilities and their financing, production processes and backstage.
By completing the course, students will gain the ability to understand a academic text well (recognition of the basic outline, vocabulary), which they can analyse and interpret. They will also acquire the basics of academic written communication (reasons, genres, formal rules), including the rules of academic ethics and the recognition of plagiarism.
