Course content
The course is taught individually according to the focus of the student's dissertation topic. Possible topics: The model of choreographic texture as an extension of the body in the theories of Roland Barthes, Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari Contemporary philosophical conceptions of the body, event and performance (Alain Badiou, Giorgio Agamben, Judith Butler, Jacques Ranciere) Performativity, post-Fordism, cognitive capitalism and project work (Bojana Kunst, Jon McKenzie, Fredric Jameson) Visuality in theatre, postanthropocentrism and contemporary concepts of scenography (Maaike Bleeker, Joslin McKinney) Avant-garde and modernisms theories (Hal Foster, Boris Groys, Svetlana Boym) Post-Capitalism and Interculturality: Contemporary Non-European Concepts of the Human Body (Rustom Bharucha, Banu Bargu) Specific titles of academic literature will be assigned according to each student's dissertation topic.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce the latest trends in theoretical thinking about theatre, art and culture in general. Emphasis will be placed on interdisciplinary and intermedia concepts of contemporary theoretical theatre discourse. Students will be given assigned readings according to their research topic and part of the class will be spent discussing and debating the assigned text.
Students will learn current theories of performance studies, be able to apply them appropriately and creatively, and gain the ability to present them clearly and concisely in public.
Prerequisites
Completion of a Master's degree, ability to self-study and read academic texts in English.
