Course content

Learning outcomes
The seminar will focus on selected figures in contemporary Czech poetry. The goal is to examine thematic shifts in relation to changes in contemporary Czech society. First, we will touch on the so-called typology of 1990s poetry as presented by J. Trávníček and M. Balaštík; we will also examine how Czech poets build on the developmental lines of earlier writers (Group 42, B. Reynek, Vl. Holan, Jan Skácel, and others). We will reflect on the connections between poetic groups and literary journals (here we are referring primarily to the Královopolská družina and the authors of the early *Weles*). We will focus on the issues of everyday life, poetic spirituality, the alienation of contemporary man, and the environmental crisis, among others.
