Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the seminar is to acquaint students with the regional differentiation of the Czech language, particularly with the form of traditional territorial dialects, their development, current state, and the methods used to research them. Students will learn to navigate the issues of linguistic geography, work with linguistic atlases and other sources, and determine the characteristic features of individual dialects based on the analysis of dialect texts and listening to audio recordings. Within the framework of a seminar paper, students will put their acquired knowledge and methodological skills to the test by conducting their own field research and processing the collected material.
Analytical Competence: Independently analyze spoken language material and identify dialectological features. Fieldwork and Research Competence: Independently conduct and evaluate small-scale dialectological fieldwork.

Prerequisites
|
Basic orientation in the grammatical structure and phonetics of the contemporary Czech language. Ability to work with academic literature and basic prerequisites for independent analytical and fieldwork.

Oral exam, Seminar Work
seminar paper - conducting a field dialect research (making an audio recording and filling out a questionnaire with a respondent, dialectological transcription of a selected part of the recording, critical evaluation of the questionnaire responses incl. comparison with the older state) regular seminar attendance (max. 2 absences)
