The seminar loosely builds on the course Introduction to Literary Theory. Its aim is to provide practical training in applying basic concepts and categories of literary studies to the analysis of specific texts. Emphasis will be placed on prose and, to some extent, poetry, with particular attention paid to the devices of poetic language, namely tropes and figures of speech. The seminar is not a substitute for separate disciplines such as narratology and versification, but serves as preparation for students' independent scholarly work.
Drawing on the foundational knowledge acquired in the course Introduction to Literary Theory, the student analyses and interprets specific literary texts and their categories.
