Course content
|
The course is divided into three blocks focusing on questions concerning the relationship between literature (or verbal creative work more generally) and law, economics, the material basis of creative work, and the sociological aspects of literary production. The first block will focus primarily on piracy and plagiarism, as well as on ways of handling information more generally, including the emergence and dissemination of open-source publishing outputs and platforms. The second block will examine the material and economic conditions of creative work, from the institution of patronage and the emergence and development of authors' fees to the economic security of authors and the management of material resources (paper). The third block will introduce students to basic theories in the sociology of literature and examine changes in the position of the authorial profession within society. The aim of the course is to provide students with broader and more in-depth knowledge than that offered in these areas by the compulsory courses (History of Book Culture, Book Studies, etc.).
