Course content
|
The State Final Examination is based on the theoretical and specialisation-specific core modules of the degree programme. It consists of an oral examination covering two areas, which the student chooses from the three specialisation modules listed below: 1. Topic: History of Literature (This primarily covers material from the following modules: History of Modern Czech Literature I and II, History of World Literature I and II). 2. Area: History and Theory of the Book (Covers primarily material from the following modules: Book Studies I and II, History of the Czech Book Market, History of Book Culture, Book and Text in Media Studies). 3. Area: Editorial Practice, Textology, Language and Stylistics (This primarily covers material from the following modules: Publishing and Editorial Practice, Textual Criticism, Diachronic Textual Criticism, Stylistics and Text Theory). This list does not include compulsory-optional and optional modules, the content of which also contributes to the successful completion of the final state examination. Successful completion of the final state examination before the examination board. The examination is passed if candidates pass both selected modules.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the final state examination is to comprehensively and holistically assess the specialist knowledge, skills and competences that the student has acquired throughout the entire Master's programme in Editorial and Publishing Practice. The examination assesses the student's ability to analyse issues relating to book culture, the publishing environment, textual studies and media studies in a professional, logical and well-reasoned manner; to link theoretical knowledge with practical applications; and to demonstrate readiness to perform demanding roles in the publishing, editorial and cultural sectors to a high standard.
As part of the state final examination, the graduate demonstrated: - A comprehensive understanding of the historical and contemporary development of book culture, the book market, textology, editorial practice and media theories in both the Czech and global contexts. - They understand the theoretical concepts, legal and economic frameworks, and socio-cultural contexts underpinning the functioning of the modern publishing environment and the media. - They demonstrate the ability to engage in academic discussion, present logical arguments, verify claims and work with sources to a high professional and linguistic standard.

To be admitted to the final state examination, students must fulfil the conditions set out in the study plan and the UP Study and Examination Regulations, in particular: - - obtain the prescribed number of credits (a minimum of 120 ECTS in total); - - select the final examination topics: choose 2 out of the 3 topics on offer
