The discipline is focused on basic processes of a language development. Lectures contain interpretations of general language changes, as well as concrete changes that passed during the development of Czech and Proto-Slavic. All the topics are documented through examples taken from the Old Czech and Old Church Slavonic texts. An attention is also paid to the present state of Czech which is described as a result of historical processes. The main method is functional-structuralist approach but other approaches are applied too (the theory of grammaticalization, usage-based theory, comparative-historical-linguistics).
