Course content
|
A brief presentation of news of current sociopolitical events. Reading and grammatical analysis of current newspaper articles (emphasis on collocations, idioms, grammar and stylistics). Additional grammar exercises of B1 - B2 levels. Continuous written exercises and their analysis - essay, report, review.

Learning outcomes
|
This is the first semester of a four-semester course for students of Journalism with an intermediate level of English. It will develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills mainly in dealing with specialized texts related to the students´ respective fields of studies. By attending the four-term course and passing the exam students reach the B2 level as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
You will improve your knowledge of grammar and communication skills, and learn how to and practice reading subject-related texts. You will also enlarge your knowledge of subject-related vocabulary and as well as improve your writing skills (essay, report, review etc.), where the emphasis is on stylistics and proper use of the essential characteristics of those formats. By attending the four-term course and passing the exam students reach the B2 level as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Prerequisites
|
Knowledge of English as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - level B1. Length of the course: 4 semesters You will receive 2 credits at the end of each of the four semesters (the total of 8 credits). When you have passed all four semesters you can take the exam course AZUSZ for 2 extra credits. Assessment methods and criteria

Essay, Written exam
- Attendance - max. 2 unexcused absences (absence of a student is in no way a reason for his lack of preparation for the next lesson) - Active participation in lessons - completion of assigned tasks (short oral presentations, written assignments, analysis of articles) - passing the final test (grammar and vocabulary of lessons discussed in the scope of textbooks and texts), min. 60% - The student must complete course study obligations until the end of the exam period
