Units 1-3 from the coursebook 1 Introduction: how to study language Vocabulary: English in the classroom; unit 1 Phonetic transcription 2. Vocabulary: the Earth, nationalities, languages Grammar: to be present simple form 3. Grammar: possesive pronouns Vocabulary: Family and relatives 4. Grammar: to be negative, plural forms Vocabulary: nouns - irregular plural 5. Useful phrases: personal data, check for understanding Writing: personal profile 6. Grammar: present simple Vocabulary: everyday activities, proverbs 7. Grammar: time expressions Vocabulary: verbs - negative forms 8. Grammar: Vocabulary: connectors and verbs phrases 9. Useful phrases: suggestions and arrangements Writing:My home 10. Vocabulary: profession Grammar: Yes-No Questions 11. Vocabulary: the world of work Grammar: Wh-Questions 12. Learning outcomes
This is the first semester of a four-semester course for beginners or false beginners. The course concentrates on practising all the communication forms: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Building up grammar and vocabulary skills though lectures, dialogues and self-study. After the course you should be able to carry out simple communication activities and cover the following topics: friends, family, home, leisure time, etc. You should also know how to use a dictionairy and be familiar with phonetic transcription. According to the Common European Framework of Reference, the students who take the AZ1 course should begin at level A1.
After the course you should be able to: - understand and carry out everyday communicaton - introduce yourself, your family and your hobbies - arrange a meeting and describe daily routines
Prerequisites
This is the first semester of the four-semester course conducted in English and Czech. According to the Common European Framework of Reference, the students who take the whole AZ course should begin at level A1 and are to reach level A2. The exam can be taken on condition that the student has successfully passed all the four semesters of the course. The students will register for exam in STAG at the beginning of the semester in which the exam is to be taken.

All students must: - sign up in the electronic system STAG at the beginning of each semester; - sign up in the electronic system Moodle after the first class - bring the coursebook for the first class - those who wish to take the course in the form of home study must consult the teacher by the end of the first week Credit requirements: All students must: 1) attend the classes regularly 2) prepare their homework on a regular basis 5) pass the oral exam 6) submission of all witten work in time More information and details during the semester in Moodle system.
