Learning outcomes
|
The course focuses on rural development in the Czech Republic and its specific features, with an emphasis on sustainability. Students will become familiar with the theoretical foundations of the concept of rural areas, the typology of rural space, working with secondary data sources on municipalities (Czech Statistical Office, RIS, MONITOR), and the delimitation of peripheral areas. The course explains, for example, the following concepts: rural area, peripheral area, marginal area, rural region, quantitative and qualitative characteristics of rural areas, typology of rural space, strategic documents.
Upon completion of the course, students will: understand the theoretical foundations of the concept of rural areas, be familiar with rural development issues, be able to work with secondary data sources on municipalities.

Regular attendance is required; a maximum of three absences is permitted. Guest speakers during the winter semester: prof. Michal Lošťák, Ph.D.: Endogenous and Exogenous Models of Rural Development Mgr. Vladan Hruška, Ph.D.: Transformations of Rural Economies: The Case of Post-Socialist Czechia prof. Martin Pělucha, Ph.D.: Rural Development Policy Ing. Michal Vychroň, Mayor of Prosetín Municipality: Management and Development of a Rural Municipality in Practice prof. Jan Ženka, Ph.D.: Regional Economic Resilience doc. Pavel Pospěch, Ph.D.: Is There an Urban-Rural Polarisation in the Czech Republic? Attendance at guest expert lectures is compulsory and constitutes one of the requirements for obtaining course credit. In the case of an excused absence, an alternative assignment will be provided. Students will work in groups throughout the semester. Each group will be assigned a guest expert and will prepare for the expert's lecture. The group assignment will include introducing the guest expert and preparing questions for the discussion. The course concludes with a written credit test. Up-to-date study materials and all information related to the course requirements will be available in Moodle from the beginning of the winter semester.
