The topics covered: - Economy vs.Economics (basic concepts) - Macroeconomics vs. Microeconomics - Production; production possibility frontier - Circular flow - Market; competition - Role of government (in specific types of economies) - Types of economies, their pros and cons

Learning outcomes
|
The main aim of the first term course is to build a vocabulary in the field of economics, develop communicative skills, reading comprehension and writing; attention is also paid to grammatical issues.
Students learn to explain and describe basic economic concepts in English, they are able to discuss economic issues using relevant examples.

No specific previous knowledge required except for a good level of English.

Written exam, Essay, Student performance, Analysis of linguistic
Students should actively participate in seminars. Written assignment - presentation. Credit test (translation of a short economic text into Czech/English; terminology; essay). Students must buy the textbook: Allison, J., Townend, J. and Emmerson, P.: The Business. Upper-Intermediate (B2-C1). Student´s book. Macmillan. Additional study materials will be available in an electronic form (on-line).
