COMPOSITION WORKSHOP: New methods for academic writing and science communication MAY 18-22 2026 Three paths: creative composition, comics composition, academic composition which you can participate in a la carte. This means that each day will include one theory session, one supervised application session, one unsupervised application session (free work), and one feedback session for each of the three paths. You will need to attend at least 3 sessions per day, but you register in advance for which sessions you're interested in from the schedule. You can come at any level - we'll meet you where you're at and aim to level up your skills no matter the starting point. CREATIVE COMPOSITION Experiment with building stories through traditional text and new media RPGs (ex: Dungeons and Dragons game system). (Yes, games can be used for both science communication and for entertainment!) Will include: composition theory, application, game play, and feedback on student work. COMICS COMPOSITION Experiment with creating both fictional and non-fictional comics. Will include: basic comics theory, basic drawing theory, prompts and space for practice, and feedback on student work. ACADEMIC COMPOSITION Learn or improve your writing for thesis or article composition, and conference presentations. Will include: academic writing theory, direct feedback on your work, and opportunity to present. Bonus: students will have an opportunity to present their research at a special session of the Colloquium of the Czech and Slovak Association for American Studies on May 22nd 2026.
