Familiarity with the basic Jewish dietary laws. Ability to identify the most important Moravian rabbis and documents that shaped the religious aspects of Jewish food production and consumption in early modern Moravia. Ability to analyze the relevant halakhic texts as historical sources.

Students are expected to read the selected sources in Hebrew with the help of English translations. Active participation at the seminars and a short research paper at the end of the semester (5 pages). |
