Course content
Course of Precolumbian art is concentrated on understanding of the first important cultures, with which the Spanish came into the contact during the conquest and colonization of America. The epmphasis is put on on visual-historical relationships of main centers and phases of development of visual culture in the region of today´s Mexico and a part of Middle-America, Aztec culture and especially Maya culture. Course includes also basci scientific terminology of art history and anthropology. 1. First cultures. 2. Olmékové ? basis of Middle American cultures 3. Teotihuacán ? first big ceremonial centre. 4. Zapotécs (Monte Albán) and Mixtécs (Mitla) 5. Cultures of bay: Totonac culture (Tajín), Huaxtecs 6. Cultures of western and northern Mexico and southern today´s United States of America. 7. Toltecs (Tula) 8. Mayas (Tikal, Palenque, Copán, Bonampak, Uxmal, Chichén-Itzá) 9. Aztécs (Tenochtitlán)

Learning outcomes
Introduction to Precolumbian art is illustrated with the examples of xxx cultures from the perspective of art history. Course completements visual-historical konwoledge of main centres and phases of visual cultures in the most important region, with which Europe came into contact for the first time. Course contains also scientific terminology.
Basic knowledge of Precolumbian cultures from their beginnings to to the conquest of Mexico by the Spanish.
Prerequisites
Subject is designated for students of Bachelor study of History of Fine Arts.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

Student has to know for graduation of verbal colloquium basic terms, historical and formal characteristics of development in area from archaic era up to high civilisations (Aztecs, Mayas). Condition for admission to colloquium is to submit a paper (in extent of 1 page of text) about any subject, which concerns the topics discussed in the lectures (painting, sculpture, architecture or artistic crafts ? ceramics, jewel etc).
