Learning outcomes
The one-semester series of lectures is devoted to selected topics from the history of painting, sculpture, and applied art of the European avant-garde of the 20th century. It provides a closer look at the theoretical and artistic contribution of artists associated with major German and Czech avant-garde schools (Großherzogliche Kunstgewerbeschule Weimar, Bauhaus, Akademie für Kunst und Kunstgewerbe Breslau, Škola umeleckých remesiel Bratislava) in the broad context of the development of modern art in the first half of the 20th century. The seminar thematically follows on a series of lectures. Students present and discuss seminar papers on a special topic related to the lectures.
Deeper knowledge of the development of European avant-garde painting, sculpture and applied art in the first half of the 20th century.
Prerequisites
Attendance of the series of lectures on the history of the 20th century European and Czech painting and sculpture as part of the bachelor programme.

Assessment methods and criteria
Mark, Oral exam

80% attendance of seminars and 80% attendance of lectures. Delivery of a paper on a selected topic accompanied by an adequate presentation; active participation in discussions. Oral examination testing the knowledge of the lectures' content and literature; oral evaluation of seminar work.
