Course content
1. "Heritage" - introduction to the topic and basic concepts; heritage values and their significance. 2. Heritage conservation - brief history, current problems, basic overview of methods of conservation-restoration. 3-13. Lectures by guests from practice, analyzing and reflecting current events of monument restoration, restoration interventions, legal or social context of heritage conservation. The lecture will be followed by a discussion on the topic.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to present the heritage conservation in the broadest context. The introductory lessons familiarize students with the basic topics (types of "heritage", monuments and heritage value, history of the subject debate). In the following lectures, university tutors or invited guests present current cases from the field of cultural heritage conservation - from ongoing or completed restoration works and restoration interventions through legislation and administration to various aspects of public relations to preserved valuable properties. Guest lectures will be designed as discussion.
Students become familiar with the key topics of heritage conservation, recognize their significance and mutual interonnection between the heritage conservation and art history.
Prerequisites
General knowledge of art history complying with the requirements of the bachelor study programme.

Assessment methods and criteria
Seminar Work

The assessment is based on the elaboration of an essay (4 standard pages) on a selected topic of cultural heritage conservation, reflecting the experience from the lectures. Students choose the topic individually after consultations with the subject guarantor.
