Course content
1. Beginnings of art history in Antiquity - Pliny the Elder 2. Genres of art reflection in Antiquity 3. Ekphrasis. 4. Late Antiquity and Early Christianity. 5. The Middle Ages I 6. The Middel Ages II 7. Renaissance and new concept of art and artist 8. Artistic biography as genre 9. Giorgio Vasari and his Vita 10. Baroque historiography 11. Enligtenment and new concept of empirical reflection of art výtvarného umění. 12. Beginnings of art history institutions in the beginnigs of the 19th century

Learning outcomes
Aims of the course: Series of lectures provide a basic outline of historiography of art since Antiquitey till the 19th century whens art history was founded as scientific discipline. The lectures will be combined with analysis of texts that will provide better knowledge of tzhe discussed period and problems.
Students get knowledge of art history historiography since antiquity till 19th century.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of European history is required.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Good knowledge of art history historiography and related text proved by written test to get credit. Attendance at least 80 %.
