The seminar teaches students the principles of research work and writing a professional text. The aim of the course is to write an advancement paper of 18,000 characters, with a detailed bibliography and a pictorial appendix. On a selected work of art or building, students demonstrate their mastery of the basic research procedures of the field of art history (heuristics, criticism of sources and literature, terminology and art historical description, iconographic determination, interpretation of the work) and of scholarly work in general.
