Course content
1. Curator in the museum and gallery - position, meaning and requirements 2. Exhibit registration - programmes, principles, Act No. 122/2000 Sb. on the protection of museum collections 3. Care for exhibits - cooperation with conservators and restorers, principles, terms, standards 4. Digitisation of art heritage - principles, rules, techniques, digitisation line, metadata, publication 5. Visit to a specialist workplace - storage of art objects and digitisation 6. Process of a short-term exhibition - selection of the theme, loan of works of art, preparation of the exhibition, etc. 7. Preparation of a short-term exhibition - author team, catalogue, transport of exhibits, placement of exhibits, lighting, etc. 8. Process of a medium and long-term exhibition - selection of the theme, specifics, etc. 9. Preparation of a medium and long-term exhibition - exhibition stock, ensuring quality climate, placement of exhibits, etc. 10. Visiting a gallery or museum - short-term display vs. permanent exhibition, practice of lighting exhibits, stable climate 11. Work of a professional catalogue editor - principles, proofreading marks, Act No. 121/2000 Sb. on copyright 12. Museum education - cooperation between the curator and educator, interview with an invited guest 13. Collective consultation of assigned written papers - brainstorming

Learning outcomes
The course introduces students to curatorial practice in galleries and museums. The course includes field trips to depositories, digitisation workplaces, professional workplaces and galleries and museums. Students will learn about the principles of care for exhibits - conditions of their storage, registration, conservation and restoration; they will learn about the rules of creating short-term displays and their differences from medium- and long-term exhibitions. They will learn the principles of editorial work and will be introduced to the basics of typography. They will learn the basics of preparing grant projects.
Orientation in the issues of curatorial work, collections management and the creation of displays and permanent exhibitions.
Prerequisites
Interest in the specific topics; basic orientation in general European history

Assessment methods and criteria

Every students receives an assignment at the beginning of the semester. During the semester they will present their topic and in order to receive credits will produce a written paper - project that is to be the subject of an exam or defence to check the student's knowledge in context. Attending at least 80% of classes.
