The course deals with the history of art and visual culture of the second half of the 20th century in the parallel of events in the Czech lands and Europe, with natural overlaps into the global framework. The fundamental moments of post-war consolidation and transformation will be studied: the emergence of a bipolar world, globalisation, the revolutionary year 1989 and the related transformations of the concept of art, the emergence of the "art world", or the institutional definition of art, horizontal art history, etc. Attention will be paid to the transformations of artistic practice in the broader context of socio-political events, but also to art-historical methodology itself. The course includes regular visits to exhibitions, museum and gallery collections or studios.
Orientation in art and visual culture of the second half of the 20th century; ability to interpret the chosen strategies and critically evaluate their reflection in contemporary and professional literature.
