1. Introduction. Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries 2. Florence and Donatello 3. Michelangelo 4. Giovanni da Bologna 5. Western European sculpture 6. Habsburg burial grounds 7. Central European carving tradition 8. Bavaria and Saxony in the Mannerist era 9. Rudolphine Mannerism 10. Gian Lorenzo Bernini as a sculptor 11. Venetian Baroque sculpture 12. Baroque sculpture in Vienna 13. Saxon Baroque sculpture

Learning outcomes
The course is designed as a series of selected chapters covering a wide range of topics related to European sculpture of the 15th-18th century. The individual lectures will address issues of style and technique and introduce sculptural roles and major protagonists.
Orientation in European sculpture of the 15th-18th century; knowledge of key works, artists and types of artistic commissions.
Prerequisites
Interest in the specific topics; basic orientation in general European history

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

A written test to check the knowledge of topics discussed and of specialised literature. Attending at least 80% of classes.
