Learning outcomes
The course introduces students to the main epochs of the development of art and architecture in the Czech lands during the Romanesque and early Gothic periods. The introductory lectures will focus on the phenomenon of pre-Romanesque architecture in the context of the earliest Christian churches in the Czech lands. The following lectures will analyse the development of Romanesque architecture and art in Bohemia and Moravia. Special attention will be paid to the personality of Bishop Jindřich Zdík of Olomouc and his artistic patronage. The conclusion of the lecture series will focus on the visual arts and architecture of the 13th century, in which the Romanesque style was gradually replaced by the Gothic style.
Basic knowledge of the history of art in the Czech lands in the 11th-13th century.

Interest in the specific topics; basic orientation in general European history

Assessment methods and criteria
