The lectures provide a basic insight into the historiography of art history in Europe, starting with Antiquity until around 1800. The aim is to present the basic forms of reflection on visual culture up to the time when the field was constituted as an institutionalised scientific discipline. The purpose of the course is a propaedeutic introduction to the historical roots and basic themes of art history.
