1. Introduction. Chronology. Terminology / Poltical situation in Europe around 1700 2. High Baroque (Architecture in Bohemia and Moravia, J. B. Fischer von Erlach, M. B. Braun) 3. Rococo 4. Enlightenment. Classicism 5. Landscape gardens 6. Romanticism / Historicism 7. Industrial Revolution. Realism 8. National myth, heroes, monuments 9. Mánes Society of Artists 10. Czech sculpture around 1900 11 Stanislav Sucharda 12. František Bílek 13. Modern trends of the early 20th century.

Learning outcomes
The course is designed as selected chapters from the art and architecture of the "long" 19th century in the Czech lands. The individual lectures will introduce periodisation, stylistic background, key personalities of contemporary artistic production, typology and important clients.
Orientation in the issues of artistic and architectural creation of the specific period in the Czech lands; knowledge of key artists and types of art commissions; developing skills of reception and interpretation of works of art.
Prerequisites
Interest in the specific topics; basic orientation in general European history

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral colloquium in English to check the knowledge of topics discussed. Attending at least 80% of classes.
