Course content
Ink painting ("shuimohua" or "suibokuga" or "sumi-e") is one of the traditional Asian art from China that is closely related to culture and society. It is a method of capturing the beauty through tonality and shading achieved by varying the ink density. This dark-light arrangement creates a three-dimensional effect and a sense of depth and distance. Contents: 1. Introduction to materials, tools, and basic techniques 2. "Shikunshi": bamboo 3. "Shikunshi": plum blossom 4. "Shikunshi": orchid 5. "Shikunshi": chrysanthemum 6. Flower: Rose 7. Fruit: Grapes 8. Vegetables 9. Birds and insects 10. Fish/sea creatures 11. Scenery/natural landscape I 12. Scenery/natural landscape II

Introduction to ink painting for beginners: 1. tools and materials (the "four treasures": brush, ink, inkstone, and paper) 2. various ink painting techniques 3. basic techniques of painting various objects: "Four Junzi" or "Shikunshi" (plum blossom, orchid, bamboo, and chrysanthemum), flowers, fruits, vegetables, birds, insects, fish/sea creatures, and scenery/natural landscapes Regular exercise to achieve mastery of basic techniques and "Four Junzi" or "Shikunshi"
