Obsah: 1. Turn of the 19th and 20th centuries (transformation of East-Asian societies, from a feudal state to modern and democratic Japan, comparison with European countries, the USA and East Asian countries) 2. Wars in East Asia at the turn of 19th and 20th centuries, Japan's fukoku kyohei 3. East Asia in the 1930s, colonial powers 4. World War 2 - the Pacific conflict 5. World War 2 - Asian countries under occupation 6. Japan relations with China and Korea (with emphasis on the 20th and 21st centuries) 7. Transformation of East Asia after WW2 (postwar economic growth of East Asian countries; changes in society) 8. Postwar cooperation of former East-Asian enemies (business, science, culture, sport) 9. Wars in Asia in the 2nd half of the 20th century (Japan's attitude and role in the conflicts) 10. Problems of modern society (Japan and East Asia in comparison with European countries and the USA) 11. Regional military threats; Students' presentations 12. East Asia of the 21st century; Students' presentations Předmět je realizován v anglickém jazyce a je současně nabízen zahraničním studentům přijíždějícím na studijní pobyt na UP.

Výstupy z učení
|
Cílem předmětu je studenty z historického hlediska blíže seznámit s širším regionem východní Asie od konce 19. století do současnosti tak, aby si uvědomili úlohu, jakou Japonsko a další státy v moderních dějinách hrály a hrají v tomto regionu. Řízená diskuse v semináři má studenty přimět detailněji se zamyslet nad okolnostmi, příčinami a důsledky událostí moderní historie ve Východní Asii.
Studenti získají hlubší znalost moderního vývoje zemí východní Asie a jsou schopni vysvětlit současnou situacu těchto zemí na základě vývoje regionu ve 20. století. Rovněž si rozšíří anglickou slovní zásobu.
