Learning outcomes

This course offers an elaborate introduction to the politics of the PRC. It focuses on historical as well as current principles shaping contemporary Chinese politics. The lectures discuss important historical milestones in the history of the PRC and introduce the evolution and functioning of the Chinese political system since 1949. Current issues and topics are also discussed during the seminars.
The course ends with an exam that tests students' understanding of the basic concepts and theoretical perspectives that are discussed in the lectures. Active class participation, including demonstrated knowledge of required readings, and a midterm test, will also be evaluated.
