Learning outcomes
Students will acquire a comprehensive understanding of Chinese foreign policy and major determinants of its decision making. The course is divided in two parts by the mid-term exam. In the first part, students are expected to get familiar with basic facts related to Chinese foreign policy including its main historic periods and current position of China in the region and the world. Knowledge of the basic facts will be tested in the mid-term exam. In the second part of the course, students will be presented with a variety of approaches interpreting and explaining Chinese foreign policy. The students will be expected by the end of the course to be familiar with the main issues of the Chinese foreign policy and be able to apply various approaches to analyse them.

Short mid-term test (30 %) - The mid-term exam will be short (10 minutes), written, and will test whether students acquired the required factual basis in the first part of the course. It will consist of 10 questions requiring short answers (a few words, at most one sentence). Poster presentation (30 %) - In the second part of the course, students will prepare a poster on a given topic - please, pick a topic in the second week of the semester. - Posters should be the format of two A4 pages, plus one additional page for the reference. They should include a combination of text (such as bullet points), pictures, charts - and generally be interesting visually and rich in content. - Posters are to be uploaded at least 24 hours before the class on which the topic is to be discussed. Everyone is expected to check the posters before the class, and we will discuss the topics in the class. Creators of the poster must be present in the class and be able to engage in the discussion, answer questions, offer explanations, etc. Final exam (30 %) - Dates will be clarified during semester (there will probably be an option before the Christmas and another one or more in January as needed). - The final exam will be written and will include four open-ended questions, each expecting a few sentences as the answer. Ability to show analytical thinking and factual correctness will be parts of consideration during the final exam. Class activity (10 %) - Students are generally expected to be present in the classes and actively join the discussion. If you miss more than 2 classes, please, talk to the teacher and give the reason. It is compulsory to take part in the mid-term and final exams. In case of a valid reasons, a student can get an option to retake the mid-term exam - please consult with the teacher as soon as possible if that's your case. Grading A: 100 - 90 % B: 89 - 80 % C: 79 - 70 % D: 69 - 65 % E: 64 - 60 % F: 59 - 0 %
