Course content
This course overviews the main characteristics of social structures and cultures in the East Asian region with a particular focus on North Korea. The course exposes students with main analytical concepts and theories of sociological and cultural studies. The seminar is centered on the topic of development of North Korean society, art practice and theory in historical perspective, with particular emphasis on the political necessities of each era and the personal role of leaders. The analysis will encompass a range of North Koreans culture and arts in the reflection of the society. The course is aimed at examining the North Korean social structure and social control. Through this analysis, the course seeks to redefine the nature of the North Korean political system.
