Course content
Contents of the B.A. state examination in Japanese Philology: 1. Japanese language: oral examination checks the ability to respond to model situations and speak at a given topic. 2. Japanese linguistics and literature: comprehensive questions concerning the following subjects: Introduction to Japanese Language and Literature, Japanese linguistics, Classical Japanese Literature, and Modern Japanese Literature. 3. History and realia: comprehensive questions concerning the following subjects: Introduction to the Economic Geography, Japanese History 1 and 2 and Contemporary Japanese Society Contents of the M.A. state examination in Japanese Philology: 1. Japanese language: oral examination checks the ability to speak at a given topic and answer a question concerning Japanese linguistics (B.A. course) and Written Japanese. 2. Japanese literature: a comprehensive question in the extent of the following courses: Classical and Modern Japanese Literature (B.A. courses), Literary seminar 1 and 2. 3. Japanese history: a comprehensive question in the extent of the following courses: Japanese History 1 and 2 (B.A. courses), History seminar 1 and 2.

Learning outcomes
The examination takes form of a dialogue, partially in Japanese, between the student and the examiners. For detailed description see below.
Japanese philology (B.A. study): In the six semesters of an intensive language study the students have acquired a good command of Japanese, both spoken and written. They have a solid understanding of its structure as well as use. In the internationally acknowledged Japanese Proficiency test they can pass level 3, which corresponds to the Independent User B1-B2 level of the Global Scale. They have a good knowledge of Japanese history, culture and society. Japanese philology majors have also gained a good knowledge of Japanese literature, while Japanese for the Economic Practice majors have gained a good foundation in economic subjects. Japanese philology (M.A. study): Upon the completion of the study, the students are able to do independent academic work, both oral (discussions, presentations, arguments) and written (articles, essays, translations). In the Japanese Proficiency test (levels 4-1) their language skills have reached at least level 2, which corresponds to the Independent User B2 - Proficient User C1 level of the Global Scale. Their language skills are supported by a solid foundation in Japanese linguistics. They have an extensive knowledge of Japanese history, literature and culture.

Completion of all required study duties and acquirement of the required number of credits.

In order to pass the examination it is necessary to succeed in all its parts.
