Learning outcomes
|
This course provides the students with an overview of classical Japanese literature from the earliest period, over the classical period and the middle ages up to pre-modern era (until Meiji Restauration 1868). Students learn about the basic characteristics of Japanese classical literature, particular periods, traditional literary genres, outstanding writers and literary schools.
Upon successful completion of the course students will have a good grasp of Japanese literature from the earliest perios until 1868, knowledge of basic works, literary styles and writers of this time.

Prerequisites

The course is designed for students with an interest in Japanese literature, who do not study Japanese as their major.
