Course content
|
Main content points: 1. The biblical roots of Christian ethics: the Law, the Sermon on the Mount, and the morality of St. Paul. 2. The formation of the early church: discipleship, works of corporal and spiritual mercy, Augustine's ethics. 3. Paths to holiness in the Middle Ages: confessional practice, the discovery of the self, sexual ethics. 4. The New Age: the Salamanca School, the Jesuits, Protestantism. 5. Casuistry: moral systems, Alphonsus of Liguori. 6. Reforming moral theology in the 19th century: the Tübingen School. 7. Bernhard Häring and the Second Vatican Council. 8. Global theological ethics: Hans Küng, liberation theology.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to familiarize students of Palacký University with the most important stages of the development of Christian ethics.
After completing the course, students will be familiar with the fundamental ethical currents of thought and be able to engage knowledgeably in a debate on an ethical topic.

Prerequisites

Students are expected to have a general overview at the level of grammar schools' type.

Student performance
Active participation in the lectures and the final group colloquium is required to complete the course.
