Course content
The course will introduce the history, theology, symbolism and contemporary concept of sacred architecture in relation to liturgical celebration. Modern sacred architecture is divided into small sacred architecture, liturgical architecture and ecclesiastical architecture. Attention will be given to liturgical architecture, which is for the liturgy, with the functional for understood in the final and ontic sense - the liturgy determines the nature of the architectural form, the liturgy is the primary architect.

Learning outcomes
The student will be acquainted with modern sacral architecture, both world and Czech, its current trends and significant realizations (projects). At the same time, the student will be offered a way to perceive, evaluate and classify modern architecture. The aim is also a broader perception of sacred architectural creation, not only from the liturgical and theological point of view, but also from the symbolic, artistic, constructional, craft and art historical point of view.
The graduate of the course will be able to - know the basic characteristics and places of liturgical space; - read sacred architecture symbolically and assess its functionality and theology.

Assessment methods and criteria

The student organizes his/her studies based on the study materials and instructions in the LMS; he/she participates in announced webinars and completes continuous short tests (approximately 4). An oral colloquium at the end of the semester tests whether the student is able to speak with understanding about the topics covered§
