Course content
Clarification of the position of a social worker in the healthcare system and understanding the continuity of health and social care. Health and illness (definition of the term, holistic concept of health, factors influencing health, health promotion, social aspects of health and illness). Principles of a healthy lifestyle (including prevention). Application of knowledge from anatomy, physiology and pathology - social impact of selected diseases (basic characteristics of the disease - causes, manifestations, prevention, changes in the client's life situation caused by health restrictions). Support for self-sufficiency of people with long-term adverse health conditions who need help from other individuals (fulfillment of basic life needs using elements of biography, e.g. nutrition, mobility, personal hygiene, adjustment of the individual's environment, personal activities and their support). Quality of life of the patient and his family. Possibilities of support and assistance to informal caregivers. Anti-epidemic measures in the practice of a social worker.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquire knowledge and skills that will enable orientation in human health and illness. They provide the opportunity to perceive the mutual connections and impacts of changes in the client's health status and life situation. The approach to the issue of health and illness is integral in this course.
Based on the knowledge gained, students will be able to assess in practice specific social problems that may have health causes, as well as situations where social conditions are one of the factors contributing to the development of disease. Students will acquire knowledge and skills that will enable orientation in human health and illness and will perceive the mutual connections and impacts of changes in the client's health status and life situation.
