Course content
Causes, development and types of assistance and cooperation The Red Cross and Humanitarian Law Human Rights and human rights-related documents Sphere Project and the Humanitarian Charter.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to get an overview regarding basic concepts related to humanitarian work with the focus on humanitarian work history, the area of human rights and its effect on humanitarian aid.
Thanks to the course students will be able to: - reflect laic understanding of humanitarian work and perceive its value for the society; - describe basic characteristics and role of humanitarian worker and is informed in basic working positions; - describe, the area of humanitarian work interest, its principles, goals and the situations it is involved in; - partly empathise with a person affected by humanitarian crisis and look at the humanitarian aid from the perspective of the crisis-affected community; - understand, how humanitarian work has been developing until now; - identify the most fundamental lessons from the humanitarian work history; - describe ethical basics of the human rights concept - describe, how the human right concept affects social and humanitarian work
