Learning outcomes
Course objectives: students will understand the importance of volunteering from a social and personal point of view. They will be able to explain the specifics of volunteering in social work and social services. They will be familiar with the current state of research on volunteering. Competence Supporting Objectives: Students will develop their ability to self-reflect on the meaning of volunteering in relation to professional and personal growth through their own volunteering activities. At the same time, they will critically reflect on the involvement of volunteers in social work and social services.
Student - understand the specifics of volunteering in social work and social services; - will know the current state of research on volunteering in the world and in the Czech Republic; - will be able to prepare, implement, and evaluate a volunteer project.

No special prerequisites are required for the study of the course.

Assessment methods and criteria

1. Paper - an example of good practice of volunteer involvement in social work/social services. Requirements: - Scope: 2 - 3 standard pages. - Structure of the paper: - Motivation - justification for choosing a social service or social work organisation. - Clarification of the criteria of good practice - how to know that it is an example of good practice. - Description of the good practice example. - Commentary from the perspective of the volunteer coordinator: a short SWOT analysis can be prepared or a highlighting of the factors that influence the involvement of volunteers in a given service or organisation - application of the knowledge of volunteer management acquired during the course is expected. - Commentary from a social work perspective: an outline of the theoretical options for anchoring the example is expected, e.g. which social work theories and methods/ethical values and principles does the example demonstrate? - Possibilities and conditions for dissemination of the described example in practice in the Czech Republic. 2. REFLECTION - at least one-time volunteering experience is assumed (8 hours). Requirements: - Minimum 1 standard page. - Self-reflection structure: - Motivation for choosing a volunteer activity. - Description of the volunteering activity - Reflection and self-reflection on the benefits in relation to personal and professional development (with a focus on professional identity).
