Course content
Volunteering as a social phenomenon. Research on volunteering - the current state of volunteering in the world and in the Czech Republic. Volunteering policy. Volunteering in social work - history, present and future. Basic terminology. Participatory approach in social work. Professionalisation and deprofessionalisation in social work. University volunteering. Volunteers in schools. Involvement of volunteers in social work with families. Inclusive volunteering. Volunteering in social services - current status, trends, specifics of volunteer management.

Learning outcomes
Students will understand the importance of volunteering both socially and personally. They will be able to explain the specifics of volunteering in social work and social services. They will become familiar with the current state of research on volunteering. They will develop the ability to self-reflect on the meaning of volunteering in relation to professional and personal growth through their own volunteering activities. At the same time, they will critically reflect on volunteer involvement and volunteering in society.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Seminar Work

Attendance (min. 70%), completion of at least 8 hours of volunteer activity; preparation of a written self-reflection (with emphasis on capturing the importance of volunteering for professional and personal growth), and elaboration of the paper focused on volunteering in social work, completion of ongoing tasks.
