Course content
Relationship between theology and social work ? the characteristics of both fields, support for social functioning from the theological side, social sin. The significance of pastoral work for social work. Social work as deaconry of the Church, constitutive elements of the Church, the place of deaconry in the life of the Church , pastoral care of the selected target group (e.g. Sick people). Main points of the Encyclical Deus Caritas Est, its contribution to haritable and social work. Social dimension in the individual religions (presentation of the main religious foundations and understanding of interpersonal solidarity , help, social and charitable activity) Social dimension in Christianity (in the teachings of Jesus Christ) The meaning of suffering in Christian perspective (main points of the Encyclical Salvifici Doloris). Social dimension in several large religious systems (Vedic religions ? Brahmanism, Hinduism, Buddhism and in the religious systems of the ancient Greece and Rome. Social dimension in Judaism and Islam.)

Learning outcomes
The goal is to clarify the relation between the theological reflection and studying the social problems. Also, the practical co-action between the pastoral work in the social sphere and the professional social work.
Students will be able to reflect their expertise and the specific questions of social work from the perspective of their fundamental theological knowladge

Daily Study Program: active participation (50% presence at least), short written reflection on the topic assigned, group colloquium Combined Study Program:: active participation (50% presence at least), short written reflection on the assigned topic. Short written test.
