Course content
ZS 1. The sources for the history of the Great Moravia, written and material (archaeological) sources. 2. The beginnings of Christianity of the western Slavs. 3. The Principality of Moravia, its emergence and development 4. Brothers Constantine ? the Philosopher and Methodius 5. The Byzantine mission of Sts Cyril and Methodius I 6. The Byzantine mission of Sts Cyril and Methodius II 7. The empire of Great Moravia, its beginning and destruction 8. Moravia after the destruction the Great Moravia empire 9. Continuity of organization of church till creation the Olomouc bishopric in the year 1063 10. The origin and development of Cult of Sts. Cyril and Methodius (Medieval and Early Modern Times) 11. The origin of the Great Moravian tradition and its development in the Middle Ages and Modern Times 12. The question of Velehrad, locating of the centre of the Great Moravia empire. LS: 1. Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to understand the Cyril-Methodius idea through history of church and history of the Central Europe. The subject innovation has been supported by the project Support of Interdisciplinary studies and Study Programmes Innovations at Palacký University in Olomouc, CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0091.
Students will learn to understand the continuity, complexity, and relativity of the historical development of the Cyril-Methodius idea and to be able to form their own judgement on this problematic in the present.

Assessment methods and criteria

Acquisition of basic literature, active participation in the lectures and excursion, written assignment, final colloquium. The student is required to work with the learning objects, which have been created for the concrete subject and are available for authorized students in LMS EDIS.
