Course content
The concept of the Christian art, history and method, the division into periods and characteristics of art movements. Sacral architecture and art, the development of sacral (liturgical) space, typology of sacral buildings, basic terminology. Art in Jewish and Ancient traditions. Art in Christianity. The beginnings of sacral architecture and art in Antiquity and in the Early Middle Ages. Architecture and art in the service of the Liturgy. Christian iconography. The most important examples of the sacral architecture development in Moravia and Bohemia since the embrace of Christianity.

Learning outcomes
The concept of Christian Art, history and method, periodization and characterization of styles, sacral architecture and art, development of sacral (liturgical) space, typology, sacral buildings, basic terminology, history of sacral architecture and art in Bohemia and Moravia. The subject creation has been supported by the project Support of Interdisciplinary studies and Study Programmes Innovations at Palacký University in Olomouc, CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0091.
Students should learn to appreciate the art used in the Liturgy, to understand the basics of Christian iconography, symbolism and spiritual movements in literature, to be able to orient artists at their work.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam

Acquisition of basic literature, active participation in the lectures, written assignment. The student is required to work with the learning objects, which have been created for the concrete subject and are available for authorized students in LMS EDIS.
