This subject will be an introduction to the areas of psycho-social research, which will be focused on the psychological and social aspects of health disadvantages and illnesses, in particular, chronic (disability studies). As part of the study of the required reading and the consequent discussion, students will look at themes such as: key concepts and models in the area of study and psycho-social aspects of illness and health disadvantages, illness and health disadvantages on the individual, interpersonal and social levels, the epidemiology of health disadvantages and chronic illnesses in the general population, stigma and exclusion linked with illnesses and health disadvantages, and this both from a historical perspective as well as within the framework of current societies, transformations to healthcare and the policies linked with illnesses and health disadvantages. Current literature will be used in the course as well as historical sources, official documents or relevant media production (news, films, etc.). Outline: models of disability and social and historical aspects of its emergence epidemiology of health disadvantages and chronic illnesses the experience of health disadvantages and chronic illness in the individual, interpersonal and social context stigma and exclusion linked with illness and health disadvantages and strategies to overcome them
