Why is it that certain people are more successful than others in fulfilling their goals and tasks? The theory of motivation came up with an answer to this question recently. People differ in the extent in which their goals are in accordance with their implicit motives. This subject provides a summary of what we know at present about the causes and consequences of a harmony between motives and goals. It will further look at questions which should be the focus of future research in this area.
