Course content
1) Introductory lecture: online database of scientific publications (WoS, Scopus, Google Scholar, PubMed), citation - how to cite correctly, citation ethics, citation response, scientometric indicators, impact factor, percentile, H-index, evaluation of scientists in the Czech Republic, rules for writing academic texts in English vs Czech language, how to present data correctly - rules for creating Power-point presentations - instructions for students (conditions for fulfilling and awarding credit) - semester plan of student presentations (Journal club/seminar) - division of topics for Power-point presentations - students choose keywords for topics and search for articles themselves (if students have the opportunity, they bring a laptop to class) 2) Journal-club I 3) Journal-club II 4) Journal-club III 5) Journal-club IV 6) Journal-club V 7) Journal-club VI 8) Journal-club VII 9) Journal-club VIII 10) Journal-club IX 11) Journal-club X 12) Final evaluation and feedbacks from students. Discussion about topics for bachelor thesis. Students will prepare in English either individually or in pairs the Power-point presentation from the scientific article. In the second half of the semester, there will be a set of Journal clubs where students will present and discus their presentations with teacher and colleagues.

Learning outcomes
Following the idea of previous seminar "Biotechnology and biochemical information" students will demonstrate their ability to work with the scientific literature. The main goal of the seminar will be the set of Journal clubs where students will present in the form of Power-point presentations selected scientific articles.

Seminar Work

Participation in the seminars is mandatory (two absences per semester are allowed). At the end of the semester, students will prepare Power-point presentation in English - topics will be selected from the biochemistry, biotechnology or genetic engeneering field. Students will be actively engaged in the discussion.
