The defense of a qualification thesis (master?s thesis) is an integral part of the state final examination. It takes the form of a discussion during which the student presents their thesis?explaining its aim(s), theoretical background, and the conclusions reached in the course of its preparation. The student also responds to the thesis reviews, addresses questions and any comments or criticisms from both the supervisor and the opponent, and subsequently answers questions posed by the members of the examination committee.
Like the other parts of the final state exam, the successful defense is a necessary prerequisite for finishing the whole studies.

Prerequisites
|
A prerequisite for successful defense is completing all courses, i.e., obtaining the necessary number of credits through pre-exam credits, colloquia or exams, which student passed successfully. Another prerequisite is submitting a thesis into the STAG system (with the required extent and quality). Students are obliged to sign up for the thesis defence, or more precisely for the final state exam, which includes the thesis defence.

Moreover, students must go through the STAG system's thesis reviews and prepare answers for the reviewer's and supervisor's questions. They can also react to possible rebukes mentioned in reviews.
