The aim of the course is to analyse important socio-economic issues typical for developing countries. Issues such as economic growth, new theories of growth, and contemporary models of development and underdevelopment will be discussed. The course will also focus on issues of poverty, inequality, pro-poor growth and population growth.
Students understand the theory and measurement of economic growth, poverty, inequality and pro-poor growth. They are able to work with income distribution data, which directly enables them to measure poverty, inequality and pro-poor growth using a special package in statistical software Stata.
