Course content
1. What does this mean sociology? 2. Causes of origin of sociology and modern society 3. Development of modern society 4. The emergence of post-modern or late-modern society 5. Theory and method in sociology 6. Conflict theory in sociology 7. Consensus theory in sociology 8. Rational choice theory in sociology 9. Interactionist theory in sociology 10. Globalization, sociology and development studies

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to give to the students the basic information about sociology as a social discipline, about their relation with other disciplines, about circumstances of its formation and main stages of its evolution.
Students have basic knowledge in social theory and basic methods of sociological research. They have basic knowledge about key sociological theories and procedures of quantitative, as well as qaualitative inquiry.Students apply teoretical experience to model situation of Czech society and development countries.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Student has to show an active participation in class. He has to go through a writn exam, in which he receives more than 60% points.
