Course content
The main aim of this course is to facilitate an advanced and critical understanding of contemporary issues in the field of international development cooperation. As an introduction to the course, the basic concepts of development cooperation are explained. The course includes the analyses of development assistance of selected bilateral donors and emerging donor countries, including the Czech Republic. The complexity of multilateral development assistance is illustrated on the case of the EU and the United Nations. Further on, the course emphasizes typical problems of aid effectiveness and discusses new approaches and institutions designed to improve aid effectiveness. The final part of the course critically assesses the role of NGOs and civil society in development cooperation.

Learning outcomes
The main aim of the course is to facilitate an advanced and critical understanding of contemporary issues in the field of international development cooperation.
Upon completion of the course students are expected to be able to independetly analyze main issues in the field of international development cooperation, mainly constrains and challenges regarding effectiveness of development cooperation.

For succesful completion of the course, students are required to write an essay on a given topic, as well as to complete a written exam covering the course material.
