Participatory GIS integrates participatory approaches to planning with spatial information and communication management. The practice is the result of a spontaneous merger of participatory research methods with geographic information systems. The course provides an overview of geographical information systems and remote sensing use in participatory research focused on developing countries. Student will be introduced into basic participatory research methods. The course includes group work in the field, where students will learn to apply participatory research methods and their possible limitations. The course requires basic knowledge of the GIS techniques, although overview of GIS is offered in the beginning of the course.
